Tassie pharmacy graduates all get jobs

Pharmacy students from the University of Tasmania are virtually guaranteed a job after graduating, a new survey shows.

Good Education Group’s The Good University Guide 2017 shows that 100% of pharmacy graduates from the university are securing full-time jobs within four months of their graduation.

According to Good Education Group spokesperson Ross White, these results show that health and science graduates are in demand.

University of Tasmania Associate Head, Pharmacy, Luke Bereznicki told the AJP that the University’s pharmacy students are very well prepared for their careers after completing their studies.

“A lot of pharmacy programs around the country have reduced things like clinical placements, whereas we’ve maintained and bolstered our clinical placement program,” he says.

“The program is very focused on clinical skills, and I think that’s what makes our students more employable. They’re very well prepared for internship in hospital and other clinical environments.”

As the only university in the island state, the University of Tasmania’s pharmacy faculty has an excellent relationship with the public hospitals, A/Prof Bereznicki says.

“Like all hospitals they receive applications from all around the country, and ours do very well through that process,” he says.

“We haven’t increased our students numbers dramatically, which I think is an issue with some of the multiple large programs in other states. This makes it more competitive.

“We recently established a new vision and mission for the course which is all about providing students with the best clinical training we can offer – in our experience that’s what’s going to be important for them in the future, no matter where they end up working.”
