WA graduates highest paid in the country

University graduates in WA are earning above average salaries upon graduation, compared to the rest of the country, according to analysis from The Good Universities Guide

The Good Universities Guide 2018, released today by Good Education Group, awarded every university in the state a five-star rating for Starting Salary.

“While universities around the country are providing students with an exceptional experience, Western Australian institutions cracked the code and combined student experience results with strong graduate outcomes”, says Good Education Group CEO Chris Lester.

“Uni graduates from WA have the highest salaries in the country”, he said.

These impressive results are backed by a strong showing at the field of study level as well, with Western Australian universities topping the Starting Salary measure in a combined 10 fields of study — a record for any state in the country.

The Guide reveals that WA excels in education fields that have two things in common; traditionally female dominated roles and industries that are predicted to have strong growth in the future. These fields include nursing, social work and teacher education.

“Healthcare and social services are forecasted as the next major jobs boom as the population increases and ages,” says Chris Lester.

‘Western Australia may be experiencing a slowing economy since the mining boom subsided, but their results indicate they’re well-placed for jobs of the future.’

Murdoch University received five-stars for Starting Salary in seven fields of study, including nursing, psychology and teaching. The institution was also best in Australia for humanities, culture and social sciences.

Murdoch University Vice Chancellor Professor Eeva Leinonen welcomed the results of the latest guide that indicated employers valued the high quality of Murdoch graduates.

“Murdoch combines quality teaching and a focus on innovative thinking with real-world learning experiences so our students are supported to graduate career-ready,” Professor Leinonen said.

“Our leading academics maintain strong links with industry and government to ensure our students are taught the skills that will help them make a difference.”
